Sendtember delivers hard sends in Baratro, Skedenj & Nugla
Sendtember has once again proved to be a great time for climbing! Despite the changing conditions, the summer crags of Istria, including Skedenj, Baratro and Nugla, saw plenty of impressive ascents and some serious hard climbing.
In the secret cave above Trieste (Italy) known as Baratro, Fabio Serino climbed his hardest route to date, sending the endurance testpiece La peste nera (8b+). It is always amazing to see how unique climbing is as a sport. You can push your limits and climb hard routes whether you are ten years old or already a little bit “older” — there is no age limit to challenging yourself on the rock! Inspiring!
In the same crag, Slovenian climbers Mitja Jereb and Matija Zupan both sent Il sicario di sanguinario (8c). For Mitja, it was his second 8c, after Strelovod (8c) in Mišja peč, while for Matija it was his first-ever 8c. Congratulations!
Over in Slovenia, in Skedenj, Jaka Šprah had some productive days. He onsighted the beautiful Sex and candy (8a+) and redpointed the steep El trabajo del borracho (8b+) on his fifth attempt. Just a few metres to the left, Brin Debevec crushed Onda anomala (8b), achieving his first-ever 8b in a day.
Further to the right, in the impressive big roof, Luca Bacer made the first repeat of Il viale del tramonto (8b), the latest addition to Skedenj, bolted and climbed by Gabriele Gorobey – Sbisi.
Across the border in Croatian Nugla, Petar Gojtanić made the first ascent of Dekadencija (8a), a powerful, bouldery route bolted by Gianfranco Dušić – Frenki. Another great addition to the growing list of hard routes in this summer-friendly Istrian crag.
There was also plenty happening off the rock. Last weekend, the Festival of Alpinism in Osp took place, bringing climbers and mountain enthusiasts together for a great weekend. By all reports, the festival was a success and the atmosphere in Osp was excellent.
The weather forecast for the coming days looks promising for climbing in Istria, with cooler autumn temperatures making conditions increasingly enjoyable. As always, check the latest Meteoblue forecast for Osp before heading to the crag.
Another strong Sendtember is behind us, with plenty of motivation already building for the autumn season!
