The Secret project 8c+ FA by Klemen Bečan

In the big cave of Osp this Tuesday Klemen Bečan made the first ascent of The Secret Project (8c+), old project located on the right of Active discharge (8b+). It was bolted many years ago as an extension to Rudolfo which joins the last 15 meters of Active discarge.

The first 15 meters are easy (5c). Then it gets suddenly very steep, where one should give all the efforts to holding painfull small crimps, performing extremely long reaches, hill hooks and high steps for about 25 moves, all together without any proper rest. After that it joins with the “easy” part of Active discharge till the anchor. A very hard and a bit different in the style of climbing compared to the other cave’s challenges. Well done Klemen! Besides that, conditions these days in Istria for climbing were prime everywhere. There were climbers everywhere, climbing in the winter crags like Medveja, Pandora, Napoleonica, in shady summer crags like Baratro, even the big wall of Osp was totally crowded for the weekend. There were so many climbers in multipitches Medo, Tržaška, in the right part of the big wall, that you can’t even imagine. I guess there were so many as in the whole year all together. 😀 Popular big wall nowadays?

Mišja peč was for sure not empty as well. Over there Jakob Šparovec sent another 8b, this time Sreča vrtnice in the central part. He fell many times from the top, but now he showed his good shape, did it without any mistakes and walked through. Bravo Jakob!

This days the weather here is a bit strange, foggy in the morning and sunny and very hot for this time of the year in the afternoon. Hopefully some “burja” will arrive soon! 😀
