Welcome to Koper!
What has been happening on the rocks of Istria?
While the summer heat is still unbearable, some climbers are refusing to let the temperatures stop them. With most of the usual crags simply too hot for hard climbing, the main hardcore action is still taking place in Baratro, the secret cave above Trieste.
And there have been some seriously strong performances lately.
Former WCS competitor Lana Skušek showed that she is in great shape, redpointing two 8c’s in the cave. She first ticked the short, steep and crimpy Attila (8c) before taking on the long endurance challenge of La Super Nera (8c). She also added Dubbio Finale Extension (8a+) to her scorecard.
Her boyfriend and fellow former WCS competitor Martin Bergant also made quick work of Attila (8c), while adding Trilogy (8b) to his ticklist.
Vita Lukan is clearly getting back into fighting shape getting slowly ready for the upcoming WCS competitions. She smashed Apache Kid (8a+) on her second go, followed by an impressive onsight of Placcoman (8a).
Ajda Remškar also joined the action, climbing Apache Kid (8a+).
With the WCS Koper 2026 taking place this weekend and plenty of hard climbing happening in the Istrian caves, it looks like we have an interesting few days ahead.
See you at the crag — or in Koper!
Have fun, climb hard and enjoy the weekend!
