Janja Garnbret sends Za staro kolo in majhnega psa (8c+)
Yesterday, Janja Garnbret made history again by climbing Za staro kolo in majhnega psa (8c+), an iconic route at Mišja peč. Originally established by Tadej Slabe in 1992, this route was once considered the third hardest in the world, following Germany’s Action Directe and Britain’s Hubble.
Located in the left section of Mišja peč, in a small cave known as Tedi’s cave, this short yet intense 15-meter-long route is a true test of power endurance. It features small crimps, a challenging boulder sequence on bad undercuts, and poor footholds through a steep roof. The route’s name translates to For an Old Bicycle and a Small Dog, inspired by a poem written by Tadej Slabe’s wife, Barbara.
Garnbret’s ascent marks the first female ascent of this legendary climb and the 11th overall. The first repeat of the route came in 1998, when Spaniard Pedro Pons successfully climbed it. Subsequent ascents include:
- Urh Čehovin (2001)
- Uroš Perko (2002)
- Jure Golob (2004)
- Kilian Fischhuber
- Adam Ondra
- Jernej Kruder
- Domen Škofic
- Alex Megos
With this impressive achievement, Janja once again proves her dominance in sport climbing, solidifying her place in the history of rock climbing.
